I am finally tying the knot !!!!!

Finally here is an update from me... Please Friends forgive me for
updating you late, but I think it's the right time for me to announce
the news from my side.

Hmm...now straight to the news. Still so many issues are yet to be
resolved and so many people need to be convinced. So, with great
reluctance I am disclosing this news, since anyway you should know
about it one day. I think most of you would have guessed it by this time,
Yes it is it, you think what I think.

Yes…I am tying the knot!!

It was actually planned for this month. But due to opposition from
all sides, the date has been tentatively moved to next month. I
understand very well that you all would be in a great shock, but yes it is.
Everything happened so fast.

All said. All right, next question; who is it? It's going to be
another surprise for you. Most of you must have definitely noticed me
roaming around with, at-least once.

For others, I am attaching some of our pics from which you can
recognize who it is…. Will keep you posted on further happenings.

Hoping for the best !!!

May the occasion be blessed!

Finally.............:-)))))

Hari Putter ne chakk te fatte

Well at last I finished the last Harry Potter Book(Deathly Hallows) in almost a single sitting (took 6 hours of sleep in between)..this book is a bit different from all other Harry Potter books...it's definitely more interesting as the trio of Harry, Hermione and Ron are on a run and face some difficulty or other in there adventure, though I didn't like the ending...I was waiting to be surprised but Rowling gave the expected end of the story without killing any central character and triumphing Harry in the end....but now since the series is over I'll miss Mr. Potter and his adventures......i loved it and lived it and don't really mind that the ending was not really a shocker....

Donno when Mr. Paolini will come up with his next.......also waiting to catch the next Potter flick!!!!

Ant and Grasshopper Story (Forwarded Email)

OLD VERSION...

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

**********

MODERN VERSION...

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can it be that this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house. Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other grasshoppers demanding that grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter. Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the grasshopper.

The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance) . Opposition MP's stage a walkout. Left parties call for "Bharat Bandh" in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.

CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among ants and grasshoppers.

Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'. Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act [POTAGA]", with effect from the beginning of the winter.

Arjun Singh makes Special Reservation for Grass Hopper in educational Insititutions & in Govt Services. The ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV. Arundhati Roy calls it "a triumph of justice". Lalu calls it 'Socialistic Justice'. CPM calls it the 'revolutionary resurgence of the downtrodden' . Koffi Annan invites the grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.

**********

MANY YEARS LATER...

The ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi billion dollar company in silicon valley. 100s of grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in India ...

Hope you got the message!!!!

Salsa Story Continued……..

WHOAH……I DID IT……I am AWESOME…….I completely totally amazingly ROCK!!!! After all the blunders and all those training sessions I gave my first ever live performance in front of strong 500 audiences. I would like to thank Girl # 3(yeah Girl 1 and 2 never returned hehehe) for having the patience of training with me and surprisingly joining me on stage as well….and did we ROCK!!!! Accept at one point of time when I kicked another girl on stage to top it started apologizing ….but that’s minimal…..the fact of the matter is that I had fun with a capital ‘F’. The kind of satisfaction you get after doing something like this is just unbeatable.

Here’s a pic and a video from my trusted N73, I will upload the official better quality version soon....I am the one supporting a pony...

How the Tax world works

Harvard professor Greg Mankiw put up this parable on his blog recently. Apparently, the author of this sarcastic take on the American tax system is unknown but it has been circulating in academic circles for some years now. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. “Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.” Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’ They realised that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay. And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings). The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings). Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. “I only got a dollar out of the $20,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, “but he got $10!” “Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!” “That’s true!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!” “Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison. “We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!” The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

Next --- By Michael Crichton

This book has a strange subject but keeps you hooked as soon as you finish reading the first page, this has all the masala one could ask for being a magic fantasy fan...talking ape...a humanzee(chimp crossed with human)...talking parrot who is capable of maths....but then the difference being this is not a Magic fantasy....it's about science and genetics...Crichton is able to combine some facts about the world of genetics research and made a good fiction out of it....his depiction of future not so far is a bit scary....only downfall of this book being not all the characters stay till the end and vanish without completing the story.

All is all a worth read.....

The Inheritance of Loss

Or should I say booker’s prize went for a toss????

I read this book from the start till the end and am still hunting for a story, there were so many characters but Kiran Desai seems to be struggling to gel all the characters together. Though the setup was nice and she could’ve produced a really marvelous book.

The only good thing about this book is how she has pictured the Northeast India and people living there, specially the one's who have settled down there marveled by its beauty. The US connection has no significance all together and I still believe that focus should have been more on the stories in India........ The ending was so sudden that it keeps you wondering whether you skipped a few pages....

What I wonder is since Salman Rushdie is backing Kiran Desai so much and I truly like his work I must have missed something about this book. I guess I would recommend 'God of small things', 'Kite Runner' , 'A Fine Balance' or 'Midnight Children' if you really want to know what award winning books are really like.....cause all this book lacks is Focus...and that too on the story :-(

My Rating: ***

Movies...Movies and more Movies......

I recently saw so many amazing movies that they definitely need a mention on my blog....

Babel

A truly international movie with a combination of serious humor, the filmmakers did an excellent job in weaving these four stories together; this movie did win its well deserved share of Golden Globes and is a movie to watch out for sweeping many Oscars.

Borat

This movie is nasty, contains really Gross-out humor so don’t watch it if you can get easily offended, now warning apart this movie is funny to the guts. Its plot revolves around a TV reporter named Borat from Kazakhstan, who sets out to discover American culture and falls in love with Pamela Anderson instead. There is also a hilarious nude fight sequence over Pamela that’s one of a kind, the movie is all about how different his country’s culture is where sleeping with your own sister is not considered a taboo…every cultural misunderstanding is a treat to watch......

Déjà vu

The first thing that pulled me towards this movie is its name as I experience Déjà vu’s all the time…this is a action sci-fi thriller where Denzel Washington plays a cop (again) and he has done really exceptional work in his gripping investigation of a bomb blast. A must watch…….

Rocky Balboa

Here’s our own Rocky Balboa coming out of retirement to compete with the present heavyweight champion Dixon. The movie is not that great if you compare with it’s previous parts, but for die hard Rocky fans like me it was a treat to watch….Love you Stallone……great ending to the great Rocky Epic….what a life!!!!

Dhoom 2

Aish Aish Aish Aish Aish Aish and Bips were treat to watch…rest of the movie was so so…..

Next in Line----GURU, DreamGirls, Crank, Fearless, WTC and lot more ;-)
